once I have been on the viewpoint Eaglerock in Thotulagalla, Haputale I watched the game of the clouds behind the eastern mountain ridges. There was a square rock further down and a hut high up on the highest point. I thought this could be an interesting area to visit. It became one of the best hikes I ever had in Sri Lanka. It ended above Diyaluma waterfall.
We took a bus from Haputale via Bandarawela to Poonagalla. We walked some hundred meters back to the tea factory (gate to the right) and found a shortcut down the hill. It comes back to the same road which is going on to Koslanda. It takes about half hour walk to the signboard of Millenium Point and Pilkinkton Point. Hereafter you have to find your best way to climb to the top. Either by the longer estate road or follow the steps or directly through the tea.
At the top is a hut and a great view. We saw a deer, goat, eagles, nice temples, the town Wellawaya and the construction for the Uma Oya project. A tunnel project to bring water to this side of the mountains.
Are you a good climber? Than follow the right mountain ridge down south to the Diyaluma Fall. It's an amazing area. But take care of elephants.
