Haven Rock (cached replaced 2 August 2015) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Balayang: I am regretfully archiving this cache since unfortunately there has been no action to restore it, or any communication from the cache owner, WarlpiriMan, requesting additional time.

An ample opportunity has been provided for the Cache Owner to respond, but since this opportunity has been ignored, I can only conclude that the cache has been abandoned.

Caches archived under these circumstances are unable to be Unarchived, and this location is now available for the placement of a new cache, by somebody else.

Geocache Description:

A 600ml clear plastic food storage container with notepad, pencil and trinkets inside.

Yet another panoramic view of Alice Springs.

Strap on your runners or hiking books and take a walk through the West McDonnell Ranges at its eastern extreme.  This cache affords what is our family’s favourite and most-visited panoramic viewing place in all of Alice Springs.  The mini-Uluru of a rock has become a place of joy, safe haven and comfort to us through good times and bad.  Sit on top and face to the north, and you just might catch a glimpse of The Ghan in its twice-weekly arrival and departure into town.  Swing towards the west and you can see the vast expanse of the West McDonnells stretching out into the distance.  Keep turning, and there is Mt Gillen standing guard.  Still further are the communication towers at the Gap.  Completing the circuit, if your eyes are good, you can see the white cenotaph on top of Anzac Hills.  And don’t be surprised if you see kangaroos hopping about—come at dawn and around sunset for these bouncing marvels!
This is all on Crown Land open to the public.  Take care of the land.  There are various points where you can access the Crown Land without passing through private property.  Depending on where you enter, the walk will take you up and down and all around for anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.  Don’t rush—enjoy the view!

Warning to parents:  Mind your little ones as they climb and clamber up Haven Rock, particular when you search out the cache—it’s a 10-15 metre drop off the rockface that on one wishes to take.  The cache itself is hidden at a point where there is no danger of falling.
