Rocky Barrens
Conservation Area
This cache is in a gallon plastic jar. You will find this cache
looking at the boats going by. Dispite what you may read in
previous logs, you do not have to cross the river, you do not have
to cross a fence, you do not have to rappell down a cliff. There is
a great jeep road most of the way to this cache and then you will
bushwack the final 340' or so. The final 20' is a little steep and
slippery, but safe for most people. The key to this cache is
starting in the right place! If the parking lot doesn't say Rocky
Barrens, then you are in the wrong place. The trail head is on farm
road 105 just north of O Hwy.
*** NOTE ON COORDS *** This area in down in a gully with dense
tree cover, especially in spring/summer. Coords that work in winter
are different that than those that work in summer. The listed
coords are the combination of me taking a 500 iteration average at
the site in late summer (heavy leaves and foliage) and coords from
several other cachers on the correct side of the river. If you have
followed directions above and your final coords put you across the
river, simply ignore them and put your geosenses to work or use
some of the coords left from people in the winter months.
