Les Sitges de Burjassot
Este cache esta situado en los Silos (les Sitges) de Burjassot, un monumento que forma parte importante de la historia de Valencia. Nos parece un sitio muy interesante para visitar y esperamos que os guste dar un paseo por allí.
Los silos estan situados en el corazón del casco antiguo del pueblo y declarados monumento Histórico Artístico con carácter Nacional. La relativa originalidad de ellos estriba en que son subterráneos y forman un conjunto impresionante, las tapas de las tinajas ofrecen una pintoresca vista en este patio.
Breve historia:
Durante el siglo XVI la ciudad de Valencia sufrió diversos problemas de desabastecimiento de trigo debido a que el Reino de Valencia era deficitario en este producto. La solución fue potenciar la importación de trigo siciliano por vía marítima, pero las grandes cantidades de trigo que llegaban no podían ser almacenadas en las tradicionales botigas, o almacenes. Para evitar dichos problemas, el gobierno de la ciudad decidió construir de manera experimental en 1573 tres silos para almacenar el cereal y así disponer de una reserva en caso de necesidad, al mismo tiempo que permitía adquirir trigo al mejor precio en origen.
Como el experimento fue satisfactorio, al año siguiente se decidió la construcción de varios silos más. La cantidad de depósitos fue aumentando hasta el año 1806, cuando se inauguró oficialmente la edificación, después de haberla dotado de almacenes en superficie, pozo, terraza enlosada, cruz de término y muro de protección.
Llegaron a existir cuarenta y siete silos, aunque actualmente solo se conservan cuarenta y uno. En 1931 se abandonó su primitiva función, y desde entonces han pasado a ser la principal seña de identidad de la ciudad de Burjassot, utilizándose tanto como refugio antiaéreo y trinchera en la Guerra Civil española (algunos se unieron entre sí mediante túneles para facilitar la entrada y salida de los posibles refugiados), como espacio para actos públicos, conciertos, festejos, etc.
En la actualidad no se realiza ningún uso fuera del turístico para su mejor conservación.

Here you have los Silos de Burjassot / the Silos of Burjassot, an important monument for the valencian History. It´s an interesting place to visit and we hope you´ll enjoy it.
One of the most important monuments of Burjassot, due to its originality and its importance in the course of history, is the famous and renowned Patio de los Silos, located in the heart of the old part of village. The originality of this silos is that they are under the ground.
Short history:
During the sixteenth century the city of Valencia suffered various problems of wheat storage because the kingdom of Valencia was deficient in this product. The solution was to promote Sicilian wheat imports by sea, but large quantities of wheat that arrived at the city could not be stored in traditional warehouses. To solve these problems, in 1573 the city government decided to build experimentally three silos to store cereal to have a reserve in case of need, while allowing purchase wheat at the best price in origin.
The experiment was successful and the following year it was decided to build several more silos. The amount of deposits increased until 1806, when the building was officially opened, after being completed with warehouses, wells, paved terrace, boundary cross and shield wall.
All in all forty-seven silos were built, although nowadays there remain only forty-one. In 1931 the silos lost their original role, and since then have been used as bomb shelter and trenches in the Spanish Civil War (some were linked by tunnels to facilitate entry and exit of potential refugees) and as a place for public events, concerts, festivals, etc.
Currently, it’s only used for tourism to maintain a better conservation of this monument.
