Geocache Description:

This is the fourth in a series of caches I am placing. The name of the cache coincides with the number of finds I have at the time of cache placement (although I am a bit past 1620 due to finding a few before I had the chance to formulate this write-up), and is designed to provide a brief history lesson of things that happened that year.

The year was 1620. On August 5th, the Mayflower and the Speedwell left Plymouth, England, headed for the New World, but had to turn back when the Speedwell started leaking. On September 6th, the Mayflower began the journey again (for the third time), this time without the Speedwell. It successfully arrived at Cape Cod on November 11th. The Plymouth Colony Settlers signed the Mayflower Compact on that date. Then, on December 21st, William Bradford and the Mayflower Pilgrims landed on what is now known as Plymouth Rock.

Other interesting things that happened this year:
The mysterious rain of frogs in Weil der Stadt on August 8th.
A severe frost in England, freezing the Thames River.
13 continuous days of snow in Scotland.
Witch hunts begin in Scotland.
The modern violin is developed.
The sign alphabet is developed by Juan Pablo Bonet, a teacher of deaf children in the Spanish Court.
Peregrine White became the first English child to be born at Plymouth Colony on 11/20/1620 (she died in 1704).

(All of the above is from Wikipedia.)
