I was started from an idea of Kemmons Wilson while he was on a family road trip to Washington, D. C.!!
I received my name as a joke by architect Eddie Bluestein in reference to a 1942 movie starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire.
The first four that I built were on each entrance to Memphis!!
Although the first building was demolished in the 1990's, there is still a plaque there commemorating the site!
Please replace as found!!!
