Geocache Description:

This cache replaces the Vinegar Hill cache archived early 2013

According to Wikipedia Vinigar Hill probably got it's name from an accident in colonial times when a bullock cart carring barrels of vinegar rolled over on a nearby road destroying it's load.

Vinegar Hill is also well known for it's extensive campsite which was rebuilt after the massive 2004 floods that had inundated the toilet block and damaged much of the northern end of the grounds.

What is not so well known is the Vinegar Hill's campsite's long association with the Gay and Lesbian community. Since 1977 Vinegar Hill has been a popular camping spot for Gay and Lesbian people and their families over Christmas and the New Year holiday period. Since 1985 a "Queen" has been appointed each year to reign over the camp during the holiday season. Initially the idea of having a "Queen of Vinegar Hill" was based on a comic idea of "beauty queens" but later developed into the idea of "appointed royalty". As a result the drag names of the queens elected each year are engraved on to a trophy presented to the reigning Queen.

Entertainment over the holidays consists of the formal coronation of the elected queen, music, films, dance and competitions such as "best buns for men", "best boobs for women"' " best drag queen performances", " Miss/Ms Hospitality", " Fashion in the Field" , "pick a Purse", and the like.

The cache is located near the road side. Please use stealth when removing and replacing the cache.
