Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates, read the article and substitute the numbers, this will bring you close to Jim's grave, once you find his gravestone the cache is 100' away from it at a bearing of 120°

Permission has been granted to place this cache by Mark Alberts, per his request: DO NOT seek this cache while any service is going on in the cemetery, no matter how far away it is from the cache. And follow the cemetery rules and hours.

Montague James Furlong mostly known as Jim Hall was born July 22, 1868 in New South Wales and started his boxing career at the age of 17, in 1886. He won the Australian middleweight title by 1887. Moving to the United States on Jan 21 1891 in an attempt to capture the World title from Jack Dempsey. Described by The Milwaukee Journal as “one of the best little fighters that ever lived,” Hall’s career was affected by alcoholism, and he was involved in as many fights in bars as in the ring.

Hall was diagnosed with TB and admitted to the charity ward at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He was caught stealing the personal effects of unclaimed corpses at the nearby morgue, selling them and using the money for alcohol. Thinking he was going to die soon, Hall sold his skeleton to a doctor for $150 and used that money for alcohol, too. He ripped up the contract, punched the doctor, and fled the hospital.

When Hall died of tuberculosis on March 14, 1913 in Stevens Point, his friends buried him in an unmarked grave at Oakhill Cemetery in Neenah, Wis. so that the Chicago doctor would be unable to claim his debt. In 2006, boxing historian Bill Schutte bought a headstone for Hall, engraved with a pair of boxing gloves and the epitaph "Prizefighter." More information about Jim's boxing career can be found through wiki or other web search.

Cache is not in contact with any gravestone.

The cache is hidden in a cut off stump of a cedar tree, its wedged between the trunks of the cedars. This hide is not meant to be hard to find by cachers, in fact I don't want you to have to take more than 1 minute to find the cache. But I don't want the muggles finding the cache, so its camo'd well.
