TALLMAN HOUSE: BUILT IN 1855-1857
This six-floor mansion is an excellent example of Italianate-style architecture. From the basement to the cupola, each floor offers visitors a unique glimpse of daily life in nineteenth century Rock County.

JAMES B. CROSBY HOUSE (SUTHERLAND HOUSE): BUILT IN 1851
Through the American Civil War Era, the home was part of the Underground Railroad. In 1933, it opened as Janesville's first hospital.

HAMILTON RICHARDSON HOUSE: BUILT IN 1871
The house was built by Hamilton Richardson. The Italianate mansion is constructed from cream city brick, sitting on over an acre and a half of land in the center of the Prospect Hill historic neighborhood.

MYERS-NEWHOFF HOUSE: BUILT CIRCA 1850
Peter Myers was a rich French entrepreneur who built several buildings in downtown Janesville in the mid-19th century.

MERRILL-NOWLAN HOUSE: BUILT CIRCA 1900
An Italianate Style frame house still exists under this Classical Revival building. The rebuilding into two spacious apartments was finished in 1904. The temple-front portico of the new design is carried by fluted Ionic columns. A prominent Palladian window in the central gable lights the attic.

LOVEJOY MANOR: BUILT IN 1881
His picturesque cream brick and frame house was originally painted in the dark polychrome colors characteristic of early Queen Anne style houses. Ornamental detail includes paneling, shingles, and siding combined in the main gable; bargeboards and brackets are decorated with tooled motifs.

JAMES HARRIS HOUSE: BUILT CIRCA 1870
A prominant mansard roof is a distinctive feature of this elegant house. The roof rests on a paneled frieze enriched with rope moldings and medallions. The vertical emphasis of the building is accentuated by two indented panels in the brice facade, which extend to the roofline.
