This cache is inspired by the adventures of my youth with DA808Poet and pulehu808...fun times with my brothers.
Growing up in the seventies in Hawaii was a lot different then it is today. Kids would actually paly outside and have adventures, not waste their time playing video games. We would love going exploring down the local Waiakea stream catching guppies for our fishtanks or hunting frogs and toads with our slingshots. it was a great time to be a kid. life was a carefree, no worry time.
Thirty-five years later we would sit back talking story, and remembering the good ol' days. When the only worry we had was coming home late for supper.
This cache is a tribute to those "hanabata days". This large cache is hidden near a secret spot down Waiakea stream. It is a place where we use to bring our scoop nets and catch guppies and swordtails. The large pool was big enough to skip stones and swim in "if you was crazy".
You need to walk downstream 0.1 miles until you reach this pool. Take your time because of the uneven terrain and slippery rocks. Mosquitoes, spiders,thorns, saw-grass, and stinky mud are all around you so come prepared. I would NOT recommend going for this cache if the stream is running to swiftly. Also, make sure they are no flash flood warnings in the forecast.
Parking for the cache is located at the rest stop near the Komohana/Puainako Extension traffic signal. There is more than enough room to safely park you car. Unless you are familiar with the area, I also would not recommend going at night..
As you make your way to this cache, allow yourself to be transported back in time, to the days of my youth when we all seen things with youthful eyes. Beauty's all around us, so take care of the special place and please replace the cache exactly as you found it....be safe and have fun Mahalo to Hiloshell & Del...FTF
