This series is very Extreme but for the one’s that love the Ghost orchid cache then this series is for you.
You will basically be bushwhacking/Hiking for about 6 miles through what I think is the heart and soul of the Loxahatchee Slough. I have been planning this series for a while and have been looking at Google earth and saw a long chain of Hammock island’s and I knew this would be a a very scenic area of the Slough. You will get your feet wet no matter the time of year.There were a few areas that were knee to thigh high in some of the areas I had to cross and it’s the dry season when I placed this series. All the Hammock areas were dry when placed once I made it out to them. I suggest you wear long pants and sleeves and bring plenty of water and snacks for your adventure. Also plan on spending the whole day to complete all 9 in the series. It took me 7 1/2 hours and about 10 miles round trip once I was back to my truck. I recommend you follow the series in number order and start from PGA on the west side of the canal. You will meet up with the Florida trail north of #9 and follow it north out to the canal and walk along the canal back to your vehicle. Load the Florida trail waypoint I have down below in to your GPS to find the trail once finished with #9. The trees were amazing in the hammocks and I saw some cypress and oaks that are at least a few hundred years old. You will see a lot of wildlife out here. I saw tons of Hogs, Deer, Owls, Hawks, Osprey’s. Watch for snakes, gators, poison ivy and be careful around the saw grass areas. All the caches in this series are Bison containers.
