I love Tijuana. It is one of the most interesting cities in the world. So I created a cache series to take you to a couple places in Tijuana that most tourists don't seem to go.
I created the story of the siblings Padilla for your enjoyment and to guide your journey. The story in both English and Spanish is below the advisory information. Thanks to my Peruvian geocaching friend "vaquita chalaca" for helping me with the story's translation.
***While searching for this cache please be aware of muggles, difficulty rating reflects this.***
In order to claim the this cache, you must find the preceding caches in the series and copy the secret code and insert it into the below equation. Because I know most people come to Tijuana for day trips and to help prevent people from not getting cache 4 in the case of a muggling, I made it so you only need to find two of the first three to complete the code and get the fourth cache. The cache contains a letter number combination. For example: A = ?, B=?, X=?, Z=?
The coordinates for this cache are: N 32 30.ABC, W 117 01.XYZ
The cache is located just off the property of the cemetery on what is considered to be vacant land. You can access the cache from another direction, but I recommend that you park in cemetery. There is a security guard and parking is free. Cemetery is open from 8am-5pm every day.
Also note: PLEASE DO NOT geocache in Tijuana at night. The U.S. State Department has a valid travel warning for a reason. Additionally, I encourage all US citizens to enroll in the State Department's FREE Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for all of your overseas trips, including trips to Tijuana. Lastly, you should take a look at the US Consulate General Tijuana's website for up to the minute information and to get its emergency contact information before you travel here.

Le amo a Tijuana. Es una de las ciudades más interesantes del mundo. Por eso, creé una serie de los caches llevarte a unos lugares en Tijuana la mayoría de los turistas no van.
Inventé esta cuenta sobre los hermanos Padilla para tu disfrute y para guiarte en tu viaje. La cuenta es en ingles y español y está bajo de la información y el aviso. Gracias a mi amiguita Peruana "vaquita chalaca" por ayudarme con la traducción de la cuenta en español.

Para encontrar este cache, tienes que encontrar lo demás de los caches y recoger la información secreta y insertarla entre la ecuación para este cache. Por yo sé que la mayoría de la gente vienen a Tijuana para solamente un día y para prevenir los geocachers de no encontrarlo este en el caso de un muggling, lo hice que tienes que encontrar 2 de 3 para cumplir la información secreta. Un cache tiene 4 número y letra combinaciones. Por ejemplo: A = ?, B = ?, X= ?, Z = ?.

El cache está ubicado un poquito afuera del panteón en lugar que está considerado tierra libre. Puedes acceder el cache de otra dirección, pero les recomiendo que se estacionan dentro del cemeterio. Hay un vigilante y estacionamiento es gratis. Está abierto 8am - 5pm diario.

THE STORY IN ENGLISH:
PART IV – The Cave
Leaving the bar, I thought a lot about the history, so I went to the library thinking I would find better information. I did not find much. I found two books and some very old magazine and newspaper articles that mentioned a little more about the story. According those sources, Carlota arrived to the cave and burrowed underneath her sacks of money. At about dawn an earthquake collapsed the cave and trapped her inside.
Some Tijuanans say she died instantly, others say she lived for several days before perishing, while yet a few believe she clawed her way out without the money.
This is where the cave used to be and supposedly the treasure still is…
Many locals have told me that this graveyard is actually haunted with Carlota’s, Julio’s, and Romulio’s ghost. They say Julio’s and Romulio’s ghosts are actually there for the sole purpose of haunting Carlota’s ghost.
I went to the graveyard and I heard that some decades later, a man claimed that he found the bones of one of Carlota’s hands that resurfaced from the ground after a hurricane. The cemetery gatekeeper told me that the hand contained a small sack full of gold. According to the gatekeeper, the man took the gold and then disappeared, never to be seen again. Supposedly, he went mad and fell in a cave.
Many years later as an effort to end the torment from the three ghosts in this neighborhood of Tijuana, a local nun robbed her church coffers and erected this monument in the cemetery. The big monument next to the cache was originally for Julio, Romulio, and Carlota. Unfortunately that nun was ex-communicated and supposedly fell in a cave and died, despite, according to a number of the locals, finally putting their souls to rest. Some people think that the nun’s sacrifice was necessary for this change.
The rest of the locals, however, say the ghosts can often be heard screaming and wailing and tormenting the locals (and each other) twice a year -- April 1st, the anniversary of the attack on the stage coach, and November 2nd, the day of the dead. If you go either of those days to find the cache, you just might have a date the ghosts...
A word of warning: All of the locals in TJ say that if you find gold or money that belongs to Carlota, Romulio, or Julio and you take it, you will be cursed to fall into a cave.
Watch out for that cave….

[1] As a reminder, this story is 100% fiction and there is no relation between this story and the monument to the Padilla Navarro family near the cache, other than I think they have a super cool family monument, so I used their last name.

PARTE IV – La Cueva
Saliendo del bar, pensé mucho en la historia y fui a la biblioteca del lugar pensando en encontrar mayor información. No encontré mucho, salvo un par de libros y unas revistas antiguas y periódicos antiguos que mencionaban un poquito más tiempo de las historia. De acuerdo con los fuentes, Carlota llegó a la cueva y se refugió con su dinero y oro. En la madrugada ocurrió un terremoto que colapsó la pequeña cueva con Carlota junto con la mal ganada fortuna y ella quedó atrapada dentro.
Algunos tijuanenses dicen que ella murió instantemente, otros dicen que ella vivió por unos días antes de que muera, mientras los demás creen que ella arañó y cabo la tierra para luego salir del lugar sin el botín.
Aún se cree que esta cueva existe, y que en ese lugar, está aún el tesoro de los hermanos Gonzales.
Muchos Tijuanenses me han dicho que donde antes era el rancho de los Gonzales ahora es un panteón embrujado pues cada noche los fantasmas de Carlota, Julio, y Rómulo salen asustando a quien se encuentre alrededor. Dicen que los fantasmas de Julio y Romulio realmente existen y que salen con el propósito de vengarse del espíritu de Carlota.
Fui al panteón aqui y oí que un hombre, unas décadas después del incendio del rancho, aseguraba que había encontrado los huesos de una mano de Carlota que resurgió del suelo después de un huracán que azotó el lugar. El vigilante del panteón me dijo que la mano tuvo una bolsita llena de oro. De acuerdo de él, el hombre tomó el oro y entonces desapareció y nunca nadie lo vio. Supuestamente, se volvió loco, se perdió misteriosamente en una cueva y murió.
Según también supe, muchos años después del asalto a la diligencia, una mujer, que era religiosa, cansada de los sustos que continuamente le daban los espíritus de los hermanos Gonzales a las personas que vivían cerca del lugar del trágico hecho, y como un esfuerzo por terminar con el tormento de los tres fantasmas, robó las arcas de su iglesia y erigió un monumento, en el panteón, en honor de los hermanos Romulio, Julio y Carlota. Desafortunadamente, la hermana fue excomulgada, por tal sacrilegio, y el monumento destruido. Poco tiempo después se cuenta que misteriosamente la religiosa desapareció, contando los lugareños que ella cayó en una pequeña cueva donde murió trágicamente. A pesar de este hecho, de acuerdo a muchos Tijuanenses, llego un momento que finalmente el alma de los tres hermanos se ha tranquilizado pues ya no los atormentan como antes. Algunos piensan que el sacrificio de la religiosa fue un hecho importante para este cambio.
Sin embargo, aún, dicen que es posible oír los fantasmas gritando y gimiendo atormentando a las personas del lugar ahora regularmente dos veces cada año: El primero de abril, el aniversario de la ataca en la diligencia, y el segundo de noviembre, el día de los muertos.
Los lugareños creen que si se fuera al panteón por esos días, tal vez se podrían encontrar con los espíritus de estos fantasmas repitiendo la historia de aquella trágica noche.
AVISO: Todos los Tijuanenses dicen que los espíritus de los hermanos Gonzales son muy peligrosos y que el tesoro de ellos aún ronda por la zona, pero si encontraras, y tomaras, los espíritus de Carlota, Julio o Romulio, pensarían que les estás robando maldiciéndote. Caerías, sin darte cuenta, en una pequeña cueva donde nunca nadie sabría de ti.
