Geocache Description:

Cache in Alexander Park, near the Gorkovskaya subway station, Peter and Paul fortress and the Trinity Bridge.

[EN] This cache is a tribute to Moscow geocachers and alluded the 'Grotto in Alexander Garden' geocache by Mr. REM Esq. We in Saint Petersburg also have the Alexander Garden (actually park but who cares? :)), and even a grotto exists in it. Some time ago the grotto was used for a cafe, but now it is derelict. But the hill is frequently used in winter by local children to have a ride on sleds. Not far from the cache one can find a memorial to Russian navy`s destroyer 'Steregushiy' which during Russo-Japanese war had an encounter with four enemy destroyers and sank with almost all her crew, refusing offer to surrender. Shocked by the crew`s courage Japanese erected a monument to the ship with words on it: FOR THOSE WHO REVERED MOTHERLAND MORE THAN LIFE.

[RU] Этот тайник является данью уважения московским игрокам и аллюзией на московский тайник 'Grotto in Alexander Garden' от геокешера Mr. REM Esq. В Санкт-Петербурге также имеется Александровский сад (на самом деле, парк, но это же мелочь ;)), и в нем тоже есть грот. Раньше грот использовался как кафе, теперь он заброшен, и только местные дети зимой катаются с его склонов на санках. Также в парке имеется широко известный памятник миноносцу "Стерегущий", погибшему в Русско-Японскую войну в бою с четырьмя миноносцами противника. Экипаж отклонил требования о сдаче и практически полностью погиб с кораблем. Пораженные мужеством команды японцы воздвигли кораблю памятник с надписью "ТЕМ, КТО ЧТИЛ РОДИНУ БОЛЬШЕ ЖИЗНИ".
