Geocache Description:

Patapsco State Park

This was called Toy Cache originally placed by Bowling Buddies in April, 2002. A nice hike down to the river level. The trail is steep, but well marked and can be slippery in wet weather. The cache location is right behind the original track right-of-way for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, circa 1835. At this time the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad did not have the tunnel building knowledge to bore thru solid rock, so they went around this outcrop at just where the present Rt 40 bridge is. If you hike back southwest towards the present track bed, you will see long granite blocks in the ground where iron strap rail was fastened. Engines were small back then, and railroad cars were also short in length so this was a easy route for the trains to traverse. Cache is a large clear container. Beware of muggles near the path.
