Geocache Description:

This cache is placed with permission in Mary Vestal Park and is only officially open from Dawn to Dusk. This cache has been inactive for some time due to past homeless (we think) muggles. We are not able to re-enable it.  We had to re-submit it.

The old original FTF was Thunderbus  on 1/20/2008.
Since this is a re-submit WHO will be the New FTF???

>
The new FTF's are 833A and the wanderr on 4/14/2013.

This cache is still a multi very similar to the original. However, the 2ed and 3rd stages have been moved to new cords to make them more secure and safe. They have also been made a little more “creative”.

The History to the Mystery:
So who is Mary Vestal?   How did this area of Knoxville become known as Vestal?

Mary is the mother of two brothers born in the late 1800’s The brothers were James Park Vestal who died in 1951 and Edward Mcmillan Vestal who died in 1946. Neither brother lived in what became known as the Vestal community. Ed lived in Sequoyah Hills. J Park lived on Lake Ave. in the Fort Sanders area.

The Brothers owned a hardwood lumber company called Vestal Lumber Co. whose offices were located in an area just south of the river now referred to as Vestal. They made wooden carts, wooden gunstocks and in their heyday they built the ocean landing vehicles that pulled up on the beaches in WWII.  Unlike steel, the wooden hulls would not attract the underwater mines.  In 1970 Vestal Lumber went out of business.

Their workers built houses around the factory area where they worked and their community was eventually named Vestal for the brothers who owned the company. A city playground called “Mary Park Vestal” was established in that south Knoxville community in 1949.

Geo Info:
All the waypoints are within the park. There is a Rail Road track that borders the park. DO NOT go near the tracks. If you think you have to get on or cross the tracks, then you have gotten way way off Track, pardon the pun. A little walking is required. You will need to proceed at your own pace. A compass may prove useful. If  games are in progress, you WILL need to return later. I don’t think Casper the ghost could be stealthy enough in this small park to avoid detection during a game. The above coordinates will get you to the first stage of the cache.
