Geocache Description:

Another addition to our Oregon Fire Lookout list and qualifies for the outstanding and best challenge ever: Oregon Forest Fire Lookout Tower Challenge. We encourage everyone serious about Geocaching to look at this challenge. We completed it on 5/7/2013, our most intense and rewarding challenge to date.

At an elevation of 3885 feet, the Tumalo Bute LOT started as a camp in the 1930s. A cabin and 10' pole tower with a 7x7' cab were added in 1950. These were replaced by a 3-story enclosed tower with a ODF cab in 1957. It was destroyed in 1981. Gone for over 40 years, but not forgotten!

The actual lookout site is located on private property with no public access. It is now a large personal residence that sits right on top of the butte where the tower once was. PLEASE do not try to get to the top of the butte!!!

There is NO ACCESS from Lookout Dr. Please access this cache from Saddleback Dr., the only way to get here.

NOTE: This is a private residential area, the cache is on private property. Please be respectful and consider your visit as sacred and be as quiet as possible. Thank You!
