Seemingly out-of-place for a lookout in the northwest, Henkle Butte is a small bump on a relatively flat landscape surrounded by expensive homes. Even so, the lookout reports many fires during the summer. First established with a 40' pole live-in tower in the 1940's, the present enclosed 3-story ODF cab, built in 1961, is staffed every season.

You are looking for a regular size ammo box. This one is in the rock pile but should be a pretty straight forward easy find. The container is .19 miles due east of the tower as the tower itself is not accessible to the public. We did however pick a place with a great view of the tower if you look up the hill due west of the container. Park alongside the road and follow the trail to the rock pile. Don't worry about the preserve sign, the area just beyond where the container is placed will soon be houses as the infrastructure is already in place.
