Kapsa Monastery is located in a magnificent rocky area at the exit of the Gorge of Kapsa or Perivolakia, 8 km east of Makrygialos on the way to Goudouras.
The monastery is estimated to have been founded around the 15th century. After its destruction by the Turks, the area changed several owners and was named after one of them, called Kapsas.
The glorious period of the monastery began thanks to the monk Joseph Gerontoyannis who started the restoration in 1861 and made the monastery well known, as it was said that he had visions and could cure various diseases with the help of God.
During the German occupation in 1941-1944, the monastery was a center of resistance. Many Greek and English fighters came here to hide and escape to Egypt in submarines.
Υou can visit the Monastery on the visiting hours, that is: 6.30-12.30 and 15.30-19.00.
The cache is hidden at the highest point of the Monastery, near the cave of Gerontoyannis. To get there you don't have to visit the Monastery but you have to climb up a steep, rocky and unstable slope at your own risk.

Η Μονή Καψά βρίσκεται σε μια μαγευτική βραχώδη τοποθεσία στην έξοδο του φαραγγιού του Καψά ή Περιβολάκια, 8 χλμ. ανατολικά από το Μακρύγιαλο, στο δρόμο προς Γούδουρα.
Η Mονή εκτιμάται ότι ιδρύθηκε περίπου τον 15ο αιώνα. Μετά την καταστροφή της από τους Τούρκους η περιοχή άλλαξε διάφορους ιδιοκτήτες και έμεινε γνωστή με το όνομα ενός από αυτούς, που ονομάζονταν Καψάς.
Η Μονή ξεκίνησε να ακμάζει χάρη τον μοναχό Ιωσήφ Γεροντογιάννη ,ο οποίος ξεκίνησε την αναστήλωση της to 1861 και την έκανε παντού γνωστή αφού λέγεται πως έβλεπε οράματα και ότι θεράπευε διάφορες αρρώστιες με την βοήθεια του Θεού.
Κατά την Γερμανική κατοχή το 1941-1944 η μονή λειτούργησε σαν αντιστασιακό κέντρο. Εδώ κατέφευγαν Έλληνες και Άγγλοι αντιστασιακοί για να κρυφτούν και στη συνέχεια να φυγαδευτούν στην Αίγυπτο με υποβρύχια.
Μπορείτε να επισκεφθείτε τη Μονή τις ώρες που είναι ανοιχτή στο κοινό. Δηλαδή: 6.30-12.30 και 15.30-19.00.
H κρύπτη είναι τοποθετημένη στο ψηλότερο μέρος της Μονής, κοντά στη σκήτη του Γεροντογιάννη. Για να πάτε εκεί θα πρέπει να τολμήσετε να σκαρφαλώσετε μια απότομη, ασταθή και κακοτράχαλη πλαγιά με δική σας ευθύνη.
