TTD's DINOSAUR TRAIN GEOCACHE: STEGOSAURUS Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

THE TRIBAL DANCER: I took the stroll down the Rotary Way Trail today...no rain...it was wonderful and colorful and peaceful...then all chaos appears when I am about 100 feet away and I find that section of the trail with a physical barricade and a yellow marker rerouting the trail off to the right. At 50 feet away, there is so much water that the area has become boot sucking mud and swamp land in places and because the path was more like a river for the last 3 years, the plant life, especially the very taller than me reeds, have taken over and are so thick, that it reminded me of my trip into the Amazon jungle in Ecuador in the mid 90's. Astounded, gob smacked, blown away...use what ever word you want...I have never seen it like this. I worked my way back to GZ and the hide and the cache container and contents were in perfect condition. However, I've been to jungles in several countries already so I do not desire to enter one so close to home. Due to these conditions getting worse with time, and since this cache was meant for children, and access to it was no longer safe by any stretch of the imagination, I am archiving the cache. Container is home with me and I will re-purpose all of its contents. Including some photos to demonstrate the conditions.

You are looking for a camo painted 3.9 Liter LnL, 11 inch x 8 inch x 3 inch high.

STEGOSAURUS

It's name means "roof lizard" or "covered lizard". It is a HERBIVORE which means it ate plants. It liked to eat plants that grew close to the ground for example ferns, conifers and horsetails. STEGOSAURUS was a large dinosaur, but it only had a small brain the size of a walnut! Scientists think that the large bony plates along it's back were used like solar plates to regulate it's temperature to keep itself warm or cool as necessary. STEGOSAURUS lived in North America and Portugal about 156 -144 million years ago, in the late Jurassic period.

1 - What is your favourite dinosaur? OR 2 - What was your favourite display of any item, that you have seen in a museum? Please answer this question here, in your on-line log.

SWAG

All swag is dinosaur themed and child friendly. Please stick to the theme when making your trade.

INAPPROPRIATE SWAG: gravel from the trail, liquids, scented items, dirty, old or broken toys

THE TRAIL

This trail is called the Rotary Way Trail. This is a very well used trail and it connects to Mac Gregor Point Park at the west access point on Bruce Road 33, and to the Gore Drain Trail at the north access point on Concession 4. This trail is groomed for walking or riding a bicycle. In the winter some people snow shoe along this trail. There might be seasonal hunting in the crown lands that surround this trail. There are signs to warn both the walkers and the hunters that this trail is multi use and passes through the crown lands.

THE HIDE LOCATION...SAFETY

Be careful with very young children as there is a small stream in very close proximity, and there are tripping hazards too.

April 2019..."may require wading" attribute added because over the past few years, more sections of trail are under water in the spring. This section is particularly bad as the water is 3 to 5 inches deep and in the area of this cache, the trail seems to have become a secondary stream. There is definitely a narrow 2 - 3 feet wide stream close to the cache hide. WEAR YOUR RAIN BOOTS! ***May 4 2020...still massively flooded and deep mud. You can access the cache GZ by turning into the bush at the cedars really close to the trail, about 20 feet north of the flooded main trail near GZ, and walk to the junction of the main stream and the flood stream and step onto a tiny section of dry land to cross without getting wet, for the most part.***

PARKING AND PORT-A-POTTY

There are 2 parking lots. One is on the south side of Con. 4 and the other is several meters north of the trail access point on Bruce Rd. 33. Both have space for several cars. In the winter the parking lots are not plowed, but you may be able to find enough room on the side of the road at times.

During late spring and summer only, there is usually 1 SEASONAL PORT-A-POTTY beside the Gore Drain Trail sign on the N side of Con. 4, across from the parking lot. ***MAY 4 2020...the port-a potty is NOT in place at this time

This cache is part of the DINOSAUR TRAIN series: #1 is APATOSAURUS GC47T1W #2 is TRICERATOPS GC54R91 #3 is STEGOSAURUS GC48D2G #4 is TYRANNOSAURUS REX GC48D15 #5 is PTERANODON REBIRTH GC87HY1 #6 PARASAUROLOPHUS GC54RBE

ATTRACTION: child friendly...beautiful wooded area along the winding trail

PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN...the pencils have been known to grow legs and escape!

PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF WHERE YOU ARE RETRIEVING THE CACHE CONTAINER FROM, AND RETURN IT TO THE EXACT LOCATION TO PREVENT MIGRATION...IN THIS CASE, SUSPENDED IN A CAGE AT EYE LEVEL IN THE TREE, NOT ON THE GROUND ***please take care and return the cache container seated properly inside the wire basket, not haphazardly...I have found it on the ground a few times***
