Corrigan school was built in 1905 to serve elementary school needs for the growing population of South Omaha, Nebraska. The old elementary school continues to serve community needs today. School grounds were converted to senior housing while retaining original kitchen, gymnasium, stage; few remaining attached classrooms/offices & continues service today as Corgan Senior Center. Please use street parking on the west side of Corrigan School Senior Center or utilize public parking behind Corrigan Senior Center off 39th Street. (scary No Tresspassing signs exist for apartments beside Senior Center but not all parking belongs to apartments) Corrigan school was active from 1905 to 1940's through to 60's serving elementary school needs for the growing population of South Omaha Nebraska. Today the area has grown enough that a replacement school is being completed beside Morton park, a few blocks East from GZ. The old elementary school lives on to serve community needs today as school grounds were converted to senior apartments while retaining original kitchen, dining facilities, gymnasium, stage; few remaining attached classrooms are craft/lapidary spaces; continues service as Corgan Senior Center. This community center serves lunch, provides stage entertainment, free classes in knitting, crochet, art, ceramics, pool table, shuffleboard, treadmill & other exercise equipment, board and card games & other activities like bingo, chair volleyball, safe exercises, Tai Chi, Yoga, music & other fun activities; live performances by artists. Today many people who long ago were students at Corrigan school or had children attend in 1960's are now seniors participating at the center; they have a good recall of the changes in this part of Omaha through the decades & interesting stories to tell. Concerts are held on the same stage that they or their children performed on when Corrigan was an active elementary school. Come into the center and check out all the actvities: people here are friendly. Senior or not, all age groups are welcomed to have a look inside Corrigan.
