Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series placed to honour my home town and its centennial in 2014. The series will highlight some of Delia's milestones or memorable moments and locations.

The Village of Delia was issued its charter on July 20, 1914.  It was named after the wife (her first name) of the area's first postmaster A. L. Davis.

Prior to that, it was called Highland because it was the highest point on the C.N.R. railway between Calgary and Saskatoon.  If you travel 8 km south from Delia to the Hand Hills, you can see the Rockies on a clear day (plus find a few more caches ;-) ).

As people drive into Delia from Highway 9, most people notice the "Delia Welcomes You" sign, however they don't realize the sign is part of a small park that also houses Delia's cairn cenotaph. The cenotaph was built in 1935 by John Nelson assisted by W. Demott. In 1948, the names from World War II were added.

This cache is placed to recognize those brave soldiers from the Delia area who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars protecting our freedoms.

While the cache may be winter friendly, getting to its location may not be.  Please take precautions.  And please be respectful of the park and the cache location.  Local volunteers take pride in maintaining this park for everyone to enjoy.
