Geocache Description:

As Greenville celebrates its 175 th anniversary, this cache invites you to join the celebration by visiting some of Greenville's historic and scenic sites.

Your Geo-Adventure starts you at a spot across from the Waugh House Museum.

The Waugh House was built in 1826 and is one of the earliest brick houses between Pittsburgh and Erie. It’s built in the Federal Style Architecture and is on the National Register of Historic Places.  The house has been restored and was  opened as a Museum in 2004.  It is open to visitors on weekends in June, July and August.

From this location look down Main Street and you will see a sliver of the “Big Picture” in the distance.  Proceed to “The Big Picture.”

You will see that Greenville was home to the invention of the parachute.  Nearby is the Kidd’s Mill Bridge, which is the only remaining covered bridge in Mercer Co.  Wild life abounds, with the many recreational water resources.  Greenville has a tradition of rail car manufacturing and was the headquarters for the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad.  Before the Railroad, Greenville was a transportation hub for the Erie Extension canal.  From 1854 to 1873 the canal was instrumental in connecting Pittsburgh to the Great Lakes.   This spurred the iron industry, commerce and economic development along the 136 mi. length of the canal.
