Geocache Description:

A lone memorial marker out in the country. It's surprising how many lone markers are around. Most are not accesible to the general public.

This is the final resting place of Heinrich Schardt who was born July 29, 1833 in Darmstadt, Germany. Heinrich married Christine Caroline Oehme April 26 1858 at Port Washington, Ozaukee, Wisconsin. They eventually moved to Thayer County Nebraska and had 10 children. Henrich died May 16,1892. His wife Christine Oehme Schardt died Aug. 18, 1918 and is buried in the Friedensau Cemetery about 3 ½ miles South of this location. In 1879 the Schardts lost five of their children from Dipthyria. The youngsters died within days of each other with deaths on Nov 24, Dec. 1, Dec 3, Dec. 5, and Dec 6. These children are also buried in the Friedensau Cemetery and have markers similar to the marker at this location.
