Geocaching Events All Day Long (BBQ from 4-7pm at the East Pavilion)
I have reserved the east pavilion for our use from 9am to 8pm. I will bring propane grills, plates, utensils, and napkins. Please bring your own beverages, items for the grill, and a pot luck side dish or dessert to share. Lots of picnic tables available, but folding chairs and picnic blankets are probably a good idea, as well. Dogs ok but must stay on leash.

POKER RUN RULES:
To avoid confusion and disappointment, it is important that this poker run / prize exchange has clear ground rules which all participants understand:
The first thing to stress is that although this is a "run", there are no prizes for speed - it does not matter who is first to find any geocache, or who is first to complete the course.
IT IS NOT A RACE..
In return for a White Elephant Prize, participants will be given a game card. The game cards will contain instructions and GPS coordinates to six temporary caches:
Ø Two “Pocket” caches; (traditional and multi)
Ø Three “Flop” caches; (Letterbox, CITO, and Unknown)
Ø A “Turn” cache; (A Moving Cache)
Ø And finally, a “River” cache (which will be the Final Event Logbook).
Each geocache container will have a stamp inside. When you find the geocache, sign the log, and stamp your game card with the stamp provided in the cache container
Once you have filled all the boxes on your game card go to the event table and receive your hand of cards, one card for each stamp. The cacher with the highest poker hand will have their pick of any item on the white elephant table. Second highest hand will pick second and so forth until all the Prizes are awarded WHITE ELEPHANT STYLE. Note: If you are not familiar with how a White Elephant gift exchange works here is a link. Getting the best hand does not guarantee the best prize. A special Prize will be given to the highest and lowest hand.
Multiple, specially marked, card decks will be used, and DEUCES are WILD CARDS. So, the possibility of having a high scoring hand will be greater! Poker hand standings will be determined by standard five card poker hand rankings, with Jokers as wild. Five Aces will be the high hand, and there will be no ranking of suits for the purpose of comparing hands. Winning Poker Hands must be complete with all seven cards and accompanying stamped game card to pick a prize from the prize table.
****Now for the fun part: Unlike normal poker, at anytime prior to the final event:
I DECLARE SHENANIGANS!!! PLAYING CARDS MAY BE SOLD, TRADED FOR, given to other cachers in return for hints on geocaches, USED AS BLACKMAIL OR CURRENCY FOR FAVORS of any kind, ETC.
SKULLDUGGERY, SUBTERFUGE, ESPIONAGE, AND COERCION ARE WHOLEHEARTEDLY ENCOURAGED!!
For example, Cacher A may want a hint on Cacher B’s puzzle cache. In return for that privileged information, Cacher A will trade his Ace of spades for Cacher B’s Three of diamonds and the hint, and perhaps a particular frosty beverage or delicious piece of pie may be included somewhere in the deal.
In order to increase your chances of making a better hand you are free to use any and all means necessary!!! The only thing I will not tolerate is illegal activity or forgery of official cards. (Or maybe something else really bad or unfair, but you get the gist.)
Undoubtedly, there will be some tie breaking going on. The tie breaking procedures will be performed at the direction of your esteemed host, Railroader921, and may consist of competitions involving feats of strength, courage, determination and utter silliness(i.e. coin tossing, paper-scissors-rock, staring contests, pin the tail on something, thumb wars, or guess a number between 1 and 20. I HOPE THIS HAPPENS. THIS WILL BE FUN!)
Geocachers are, by nature, a sneaky, conniving bunch who hide in the shadows to uncover each other’s secrets. This game is a celebration of bad behavior, and I expect everyone's experience to be appropriately logged on the event cache's page. That being said, any trade and barter and competition should be done in good spirits and all in the name of fun. Please: No hurt feelings, guys! Honestly, the prizes are NOT worth it! It’s all about the bragging rights and the fun! Above all, a poker run should be a fun and enjoyable event for all concerned.
Ideas for White Elephant Prizes:
Reasonably Priced Swag: Unique Vintage or Second-Hand items (e.g. found at yard-sales, thrift stores, army-navy surplus, etc), not necessarily geocaching related, hand made items, or gag gifts. (I'm thinking stuff like a rubber chicken, a silly looking lamp, a teddy bear, along with the usual geo-swaggy trinkets.)
Prizes can be wrapped or unwrapped. All Prizes are considered as non-refundable donations to the event. No expectation of a fair trade for an item of equal value is should be made or implied in this game. You get what you get and don’t throw a fit!Pictures of Winners with their prizes will be taken and posted onto the event cache page [;-)]
