Geocache Description:

You are next to one of the few remaining barn theaters in the nation AND a lakefront park! This is a great location to bring a picnic lunch, camera, and volleyball.

The barn for the theater was built in the late 19th century by Frederick Foster on the Stevens farm. The main crop on the farm was broccoli which attracted numerous rabbits. The rabbits seemed so pleased with their home that they stayed long after the broccoli was gone. Because of the abundance of rabbits on the property...you can probably guess the rest.

The 32.8-acre lakeshore park includes a 0.2-mile shore. The western half of the park’s shore is a nearly vertical, heavily vegetated bluff. A mixture of deciduous and evergreen trees grow along the bluff face and extend inland about 100 feet to create a small woods. There are no safe paths to traverse this nearly vertical extent of the bluff.

Along the park’s east, a packed-dirt path zigzags down a graded, vegetated bluff to a wooden staircase which drops down to a 475-foot long beach. This natural sand beach is mixed with pebbles, small stones and shell fragments in larger quantities closer to the water’s edge. Swimming, at one’s own risk, is permitted.

This cache, located in the park, is not for those who are vertically challenged.  As you explore the park, make sure to take in the beautiful lake views, and sit on local artist Fred's hand-carved bench.  Listen to nature and contemplate your next hidden cache.
