A brief walk down a well maintained track to the modern Ackers Point Lighthouse and a great place to view many sea birds!
The lighthouse at Acker's Point has views out over the islands and Foveaux Strait and on a clear day (like the one we placed the cache on). It was placed here in 1927, replacing one in 'The Neck', nearby. The current structure was placed in 2006. In mid-late summer sooty shearwaters (muttonbirds) can be seen returning to their burrows around this point at dusk and little blue penguins after dark.
Cache container is a large screw top Glad container which contained bag, also containing a log book and pen at the time of placing.
Please note that the cache is NOT in any of the many holes in the area! These are nesting burrows for the various birdlife. Please don't reach into them!
