While prepping for this hike one of the pages I read described the large boulder near GZ as a glacial erratic... The boulder was snow covered on the day I visited so it wasn't possible to be 100% sure but I'm fairly certain this boulder fell from above.
The GeoKs enticed me out to this beautiful snowy pass on the Easter weekend of 2013 with their Fav Hike #5. After making it to their ground zero and digging through 6-8' of snow without making the find I decided to leave some winter accessible caches along the route on my way back to the truck.
This cache brings you to a large boulder that is partly blocking the trail to Burstall Pass. I found this location to be quite beautiful and was intrigued by the notion that this boulder had been refered to as an erratic... I look forward to other cacher's opinions but my money is on rock fall.
You are looking for a camo'd matchstick container hanging about 3' off the snow (maybe 5 to 6' off the ground). This cache is all about the journey and the location it brings you to so there is no room for any traders and you will need to bring your own pen.
Parking for this cache is at the Burstall Pass parking lot and the cache is located just off of the main trail to the summit. Please ensure that you have the proper equipment and supplies to make this trek. Million Dollar Puppy and I were on the mountain for a little over 5 hours but that included over 30 minutes of digging at the Fav. Hike #5.
