A walk up and around Dan Y Graig near LLantrisant which is affectionately known as Billy Wynt by the locals. The the top of the Graig is the highest point of the town and here lies the remains of a 13th century windmill Hen Felyn Wynt – this stone tower is known locally as “Billy Wynt”. By the early 19th century the tower was in ruins and in 1893 it was restored as a folly.
Autumn of 2007 saw grazing on the Graig reinstated and there have been horses and cattle grazing there since. At present there are 2 large cows enjoying the freedom of the Graig and its views, they are friendly enough, but please do not feed them.
The walk is dog and child friendly although not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The path can be quite muddy in places, especially after rain so wellies or walking shoes advisable. A popular walk for locals and dog walkers, and a favourite of our geohound.
This walk is approx 2 miles zig zagging up to the top with an ascent of around 400ft. There are many paths up/ down, please stay on these well defined paths.
At the top, take a while to climb Billy Wynt's tower or simply take a seat to admire the great views from up here, on a fine day you can see the counties of Rhonnda Cynon Taf, South Glamorgan, Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend.
