Church Micro 1731 - St. Werburghs, Old Blackwell
St Werburgh was a 7th century saint, daughter of an Anglo-Saxon king. She became a nun at Ely and later Abbess of various convents in the Kingdom of Mercia. A church has stood on this location since at least the 7th century. The church sits about half a mile from Blackwell in an area know as Old Blackwell. It was built in 1827-28 and then rebuilt, except for the tower, in 1878-79. There are the remains of an anglo saxon cross, though some sources suggest it is in the church yard and some suggest it is in the porch. Blackwell, had an old custom of Clipping the Church. It took place on the Sunday nearest 21st June which is the birthday of St Werburgh. Parishioners 'embraced' the parish church by parading around it, the intention being to mark out the bounds of the church and bring in the flock.

To find this cache you need to go to the listed co-ordinates. This will take you to the west side of the church where above a door an inscribed stone can be found. The stone is worn, but a year is just legible- AD:ABCD. If you are having trouble with the third digit, the text above may help.
The cache can then be found a short walk away at:
