Geocache Description:

Hello Possum - Olinda State Forest

Another in a series of caches in the Dandenongs. Olinda State forest is a short drive from Melbourne and only 10 minutes from the Olinda, Kalorama, Mt Dandenong and Sassafras. The State park is home to some beautiful bushland and is popular with walkers and bike riders who know its secrets. The forest is home to wallabies, possums, lyrebirds, echidnas, owls and kookaburras all of which have been sighted or heard along these tracks if you are lucky. You will be surrounded by towering gum trees ( stringybarks and peppermints), amongst tree ferns, wattles and wire grass, The cache is located 5 meters off a track- guess what its name is- which is not that obvious- the track is not marked but there are signs nearby. The track loops down the hill and crosses a creek effectively joining 2 major tracks. This cache is located not far from a number of others and can form part of a day in the 'nongs- bring your snags and maybe have a barby at Silvan dam or a tea and scones at Olinda. ** Please note- do not attempt this cache on total fire ban days or during extreme fire risk day,
