Geocache Description:

There are many different types of plants in the Giles Conservation Park, some are native and others have been introduced and are now considered weeds.  Two examples are the eucalyptus tree (native) and the blackberry (weed).

Below are chemical structures of two chemical compounds, one is the major extract from some eucalyptus species and the other is can be found in blackberries.  The first structure below, C10 H18 O (where C=carbon, H = hydrogen and O = oxygen), is from the eucalypt trees and it has a fresh camphor-like smell and a spicy, cooling taste. It is insoluble in water, but miscible with ether, ethanol and chloroform.  The melting point is at 1.5 degrees Celsius, with the boiling point at 176-177 degrees Celsius. It has uses as flavouring, fragrance, medicine and as an insecticide and a repellent.

The last chemical (C7 H6 O3; shown below) is from the blackberry. It is a plant hormone with roles which includes plant growth and development, photosynthesis, transpiration, ion uptake and transport.  When pure it is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 159 degrees Celsius. It is poorly soluble in water but this is increased when made alkaline. More compatible solvents include ethanol, acetone and ether. This chemical is more well known for its ability to ease aches and pains and reduce fevers.

To find the location of this cache you are required to investigate these chemicals and once the relevant information has been found and simplified (for example the format of the original coordinates will be 3456449 & 13843459), they are required to be placed into the simple equations where the final coordinates of the cache will be revealed.

Southern coords = 2985570 + XXXXXX
Eastern coords = 13773606 + XXXXX

To check your answer you can click on the window below, before you start walking.

I should mention that the cache is not at the listed coordinates; however it is within a couple of hundred metres.
