This is an area that I have recently discovered which is a nice and quiet, secluded spot that is great for children to run around in. I therefore thought to share it with others so set up this set of three caches which would be ideal for families and children, given the whole route is only about a mile long.
The caches aren't hard to find and again would be ideal for younger children (as well as everyone else!)
The area itself is currently planted with over 36,000 young broadleaf trees and offers pleasant views, with the route from the car park through caches 1, 2 then 3 has a little elevation rise and fall mainly on a grassed track which is easy to follow. At the highest point (not far past number 2) there is a bench to stop and relax, followed by a stream cutting across near to cache 3.
The area used to be part of the Cefn Ila estate, which, prior to it's burning down in 1973, used to be the local maternity hospital.
Please note the car parking waypoint, which is the best point to start your amble. If you are coming from Usk direction be careful not to zip past the little, rough track that goes to the car park - look out for a cream coloured house with a privet hedge on your right and the wooden sign that says 'Cefn Ila'. It is only about 1 mile form the road junction at Llanbadoc.
The area is also part of a Welsh Government scheme to plant a tree for every child that is born in Wales since 2008.
