Town Marshal Rudolph Maurer EOW: November 23, 1922

Years of service:  2 years
Cause of Death:  Gunfire - Handgun
South Haven Township Marshal Maurer was shot and killed while attempting to arrest several trespassers at the local train depot.
Earlier in the day Marshal Maurer ordered two suspicious looking men out of the train station.
Later in the evening he encountered them again sitting by an illegal campfire next to the railroad tracks.
As Marshal Maurer was attempting to place these men under arrest he was shot once in the chest.
The men were charged with Marshal Maurer's murder.
Marshal Maurer was not married at the time of his murder.

*Marshal Maurer's name is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall in Washington D.C.*
