Not a long time ago
(May 4, 2013 10:00 AM),
Not in a Galaxy Far, Far, Away
(Scott Air Heritage Park in Illinois
IS in SLAGA territory)

World Wide Flash Mob X
"May the FOURTH be with You"
Since I can't get over to Kansas City for their WWFM X event
(that sounds like it's going to totally rock
and be not so much of a micro event),
I figure I can provide SLAGA-land with a micro version of it...
This event is a part of the World Wide Flash Mob (WWFM) network of events which consists of hundreds of Geocaching flash mobs all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together Geocachers and introduce others to Geocaching.
To claim the event, you must be present and drop a signed log sheet into the marked container during this time.
If you are a Star Wars geek, like I am, and played the X-Wing computer game around 1990, then you should recognize the Starlifter as a freighter you had to guard, disable, or capture in many missions to advance to the next level. If not, then now you partially know why I chose the spot in front of the C-141 Starlifter.
(On April 19, Beth, the secretary of the Scott Field Heritage Air Park Board of Directors, assured me that this is a park open to the public,
which she said allows us to use it for our gathering.)
Come be part of this historic experience!
The event will begin precisely at 10:00 am on May 4, 2013
and will last EXACTLY fifteen minutes, not one second longer.
Unless you want to stay and chit chat some more.
But I need to get to the next thing.
EVENT DETAILS -- you might want to watch this event page for any late breaking updates.
9:45 - 9:59 AM |
Cachers: Start parking your Landspeeders, XWings, AT-AT Walkers, Shuttle Craft, Speeder Bikes, or other transport.
Don't have to worry much about muggles here. Or Bothan Spies.
|
9:59 AM |
Make your way toward the event coordinates - with some form of Star Wars memorablia, if you have them - lightsabers, masks, books, Taco Bell/Burger King toys, action figures, etc.
|
10:00 am exactly-ish
(by your GPS clock) |
If I can find it, I will place my old Millenium Falcon out near the coordinates for you to place your log sheets.
(If not, then I guess a generic plastic bucket will have to do.)
As you arrive, we'll hand you an official event "personal log sheet'.
Participants must sign the log sheets (which will later become the log book).
To qualify for attendance, drop them into the plastic bucket.
(Or whatever containter I find.)
|
10:05 AM |
We will gather and take a group photo. With Star Wars items if brought.
|
10:10 AM |
We will draw a name from the pool of logsheets for the title of First-to-Find, and determine who traveled the greatest distance to this WWFM (who came from closest to a galaxy far, far, away.)
Both winners will receive a special (barely coveted) Prize!
|
10:15 AM |
The log sheets will be packed up and sealed away.
The event area will be evacuated without a trace.
Do some local Geocaching, Benchmarking, or Waymarking,
or join fellow Geocachers for lunch at a neighboring restaurant.
Or come over to Belleville East High School to cheer on Awesome Girl as she runs the 1600 meter at her elementary school's track meet.

Sorry, Yoda. Tuba Day is May 3.
