GC4AEPH 1-2-3 TB Hotel TCDNMB (Traditional Cache) in Manitoba, Canada created by Stonagal

This cache has been archived.

Stonagal: Ground zero has been permanently changed. Although the hiding spot was left intact, it is even more conspicuous than before. I'm a little surprised this one never had muggle trouble, but now it would be almost impossible. Time to free up the space. Thank you to everyone who found it over its 13-month life!

Geocache Description:

Cache is a 1.1 litre camoed latch box, containing a pencil and FTF certificate. It is a travel bug hotel, so please ensure that you leave at least one trackable in the cache after you find it. Stealth is required, though the EMS building just to the south is aware of the cache’s placement.

This cache is placed in Oak Bluff, Manitoba, a bedroom community several kilometres southwest of Winnipeg. The chosen location is in a modified triangle formed by three Manitoba highways. The Trans-Canada Highway (PTH 1, but PTH 100 at Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway), Red Coat Trail (PTH 2), and Boundary Commission Trail (PTH 3) all intersect with each other within a kilometre of this site.

The Trans-Canada Highway by-passes Winnipeg to the south. Near this location is where the highway changes course and heads east toward Ontario. This stretch of highway is also the southern “half” of Winnipeg’s Perimeter Highway.

The Red Coat Trail starts just southeast of here and travels nearly 1300 km to its western terminus near Fort Macleod, Alberta, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The route roughly follows that taken in 1874 by the North-West Mounted Police (“Red Coats”), with the aim of establishing British-Canadian law and order throughout what was then the Northwest Territories.

The Boundary Commission Trail roughly follows the route taken by an international boundary survey commission in the 1870s, tasked with surveying the area near the 49^th parallel, dividing Canada from the United States. Although the survey route was much closer to the border than it is here, the entire section of highway has been designated as the BCT.

(I may amend this cache's location during the summer, depending on how the area is maintained.)

Congratulations to JB. for the FTF!
