Geocache Description:

From 9:00-11:00, S.W.A.G. celebrates Oktober with a C.I.T.O. to Reverse Litter and save our land, water resources, and our fisches!

Oktoberfisch with S.W.A.G. at the C.I.T.O. and join forces with Geocaching.com, the Tarrant Regional Water District, and the cities of Arlington, Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, and Mansfield to Reverse Litter.

"80% of litter found in our creeks & rivers traveled from locations on land."

Geocaching.com's C.I.T.O.s and Reverse Litter are bringing awareness to the consequences that unintentional or accidental acts of littering can have on Metroplex-area waterways.  Come join S.W.A.G. in the movement to clean up our community and prevent litter from clogging and polluting our waters.

9:00 a.m. – Meet at coordinates to sign in and listen to a short, mandatory safety meeting. Here is a link to the safety video: TxDOT AAH Safety Video. Our two mile Adopt-A-Highway stretch of Cooper Street extends from our southern boundary at U.S. 287 N and our northern boundary at T.O. Harris Road.

11:00 a.m.-Make sure trash bags are placed at the base of either AAH sign, and vests are returned at this time. (I hope to have a sweep trailer driving our AAH stretch to retrieve bags, but I'm not sure, yet. Also, you may turn in your vests earlier than 11:00; this is just the scheduled end time.)

The cache coordinates will take you to the spot where we will be set up to pass out and collect supplies, have the sign-in sheet, waivers, and hold a short, mandatory safety meeting. This spot is near the north end of our area on the west side.

There is no one good spot for parking; however, there is parking available all up and down Cooper Street at various strip malls, closed businesses, and at the YMCA parking lot. This area sometimes needs lots of clean up, and sometimes it does not look too bad. Cooper Street is ALWAYS busy though, so use caution at all times.

Some AAH guidelines to know before you go:
· Volunteers must wear the safety vests provided by TxDOT during the cleanup.
· Volunteers must wear gloves.
· All children must be supervised, and children under 7 may not participate.
· Stay in the right of way, and only cross the roadway when necessary.

This is a rain or shine event! I'll bring an ice chest with water bottles, but if anyone else wants to bring a cooler with other type of drinks, I would greatly appreciate it too.

If you are hungry after the clean up, there are many eating choices for all up and down Cooper Street, as well as east of Cooper off of U.S. 287.

Please watch the event page for any updates! Thanks in advance!
