Geocache Description:

This Flash Mob marks the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid.
The airfield where airmen of 617 Squadron (the Dambusters) were based is RAF Scampton which of course no where near this event.

I invite you to come along and take part and pay tribute in the tradition of silly flash mobs held here over the years.

The history

Thursday 16 and Friday 17 May 2013 commemorate the 70th anniversary and the extraordinary achievement that was the Dambusters Raid - an operation which changed the course of the Second World War. Nineteen Lancaster Bombers, each carrying the lethal ‘Bouncing Bomb’, took off from Lincolnshire to destroy the dams of Germany’s Ruhr Valley, the heart of Germany’s war-machine. The crews came from Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

The Flash Mob.

Gather from 11.45 at Barr Beacon for a Mid-day event.

For the brave hearted, optional fancy dress attire can be worn if desired - think World War II flying ace with silk scarf and flying goggles and huge handle bar moustache.

When the Command "CHOCS AWAY" is heard, The Dam Busters March, the theme for the 1955 film The Dam Busters will be heard
This is the point in the proceedings where cachers can out stretch their arms, jump into their imaginary cockpits and (while imitating aeroplanes) hum or sing along to the tune.

After three minutes / appropriate silliness, the squadron will return to base and the event will end.

AFTER THE EVENT

Time to relax and have a little geo chat, share stories and swap geo coins at the end of this event. Maybe even some geocaching!
