Finnish Block Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

k6_est: After careful consideration I have decided to archive this cache. I don't find this spot to be any good any more due to the alcohol shop that has been establised just a few metres from the cache and the shady customers visiting and relieving themselves everywhere, which may make the process of seeking for this cache quite unpleasant. This is really unfortunate as this cache is the closest to my home (just a few hundred metres away) and was easy to check and maintain. Thanks to all the seekers and I hope this brought joy to all who thought this humble cache is suitable for their attention.

Geocache Description:

After the Second World War Finland was considered to be one of the losing nations as an ally of Germany. According to an arrangement Finland had to compensate war damages to the Soviet Union. As part of the arrangement the Finns built about 160 one storied barrack type wooden  houses in the district of Nõmme in Tallinn, to accommodate local people who had lost their homes, as well as settlers from other parts of the Soviet Union.

On the Põllu street and Rännaku boulevard some of the houses still exist. After Estonia regained independence from the Soviet Union the inhabitants started to upgrade their houses, but there was no central concept of the overall look of the district. Many of the buildings had more than one family living inside and in many cases it was not possible to fully renew even one single house. Therefore interesting architecture has arisen in the district where some of the barracks have evolved into posh houses, some stand as sad as ever and of some only half of the house has been fixed up.

Inside the container: pencil, logbook, geocaching instructions.

The cache is hidden next to the highest object of the block. There is a marking that indicates the location of the container.
