Mystery Train - The Ghost Line Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

KowaiBaz: As of 06:14 yesterday morning, November 21st 2016, this is happily no longer a ghost line and the cache title and description no longer make sense. There are now 15 new peak time train services passing through the upgraded tunnel route and it is likely that these services will be expanded to include off-peak and weekends.

One of the items in the summary of Public Consultations addressed the possibility of stopping at Heuston: Iarnród Éireann states that "Current infrastructure does not permit services to call at platform 10." Remember GC2Y3VQ?

Thanks to everyone for the logs on this one. It has had 38 finds in its 3 years 7 months of life.

Geocache Description:

There is a line that leaves Heuston Station and enters the Phoenix Park tunnel at the given coordinates.  It resurfaces again close to the North Circular Road Gate before travelling on through Cabra, Phibsboro, Drumcondra and on to Connolly Station and the Docklands.

The rail link is fully functional; it occasionally carries freight and is used to shunt locomotives between stations.  Why it is not regularly used for passenger services is a bigger mystery than the one you must solve to find the cache ...

Two rarely used tracks, disappearing underground.
From here one thousand metres to where the cache is found.
A mysterious yet gentle curve and then they reappear.
Closer by six hundred and fifty metres here.
