This cache has been archived.

djbach: It's time to close this event. Still two trackables not removed from the event even though I know someone took them. Marked them missing so their owners know. Thanks to everyone who came and made this a really great event.

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Since May 3, 2000, geocaching has come a long way.  In fact, it’s matured to the point that it has its own vocabulary (muggle, swag, geotool, geotrail), it’s own “Mecca” (The Original Stash…), a must find trifecta (The Original Stash…, Mission 9: Tunnel of Light and Geocaching Headquarters) and a yearly international “convention” (GeoWoodstock).  It’s gradually working its way into the fabric of the world’s culture to the point that it’s becoming part of the American publishing industry.  Last year, the popular novelist, John Grisham, released 5,000 geocoins to help advertise his newest novel, The Racketeer.  More and more writers are beginning to use geocaching as a part of their books.  I personally have read novels by Mark Gessner, David Klug and L.C. Hayden whose stories center around geocaching.  Kathleen Hering, a local author, included references to geocaching in her first novel.  One of my favorite authors, Kathy Reichs (the TV series “Bones” is based on her main character), has recently written a “Virals” series and bases her third book in the series totally on geocaching.

The other day, I was reading a book by Morgan C. Talbot, and I got this idea that it would be fun to celebrate geocaching in the American novel by having a NOVEL Meet & Greet.  Wouldn’t it be interesting to know how a published author actually incorporates the experiences we’ve all had along the geocaching trail, into an actual novel? What if I could go so far as to invite a REAL geocaching novelist to be the special guest at the event.

It just so happens that the book I was reading is the second in a series of geocaching novels and the author, Morgan C. Talbot, just happens to live in Washington, cache under the name Frumious Jane, and is the daughter of local geocachers, DrJunior.

So, bottom line, join us on Friday evening, June 21, from 6-8pm and meet and swap stories along the geocaching trail with Frumious Jane, AKA Morgan C. Talbot.  Find out how a real novelist combines her love of writing and storytelling with our favorite pastime, geocaching.

We will be the only ones at this location so stay as long as you wish.  There is lots of room for us to spread out and things for children to do, so bring along the young ones.  Bring your coins and travel bugs to trade and discover or share in whatever way you wish.  We will also have a drawing for door prizes so feel free to bring something to share for that as well.

If you wish, bring along some finger foods or drinks (no alcohol) to share while here.

As an added bonus, Morgan C. Talbot, AKA Frumious Jane, has agreed to provide those in attendance with the chance to win a very unique door prize as the GRAND PRIZE for the event.
