FINDING GOLD IN THE GLORY HOLE Traditional Geocache

This cache is a stone throw away from Becks road & where you can also park. Everybody who is able should see this unique waterfall and surrounding area/small gorge - it's a very interesting location at the bottom of Bardons Peak-Duluth, MN. The areas above and below the Glory Hole/cache are also interesting, with several smaller falls and cascades and some awesome bluffs and huge boulders. This is my first Park and Grab cache, compared to my other adventures caches in this area. So everyone will have a fighting chance, even you Artemis! In alluvial gold mining, a glory hole refers to an eroded out depression in old river beds or those formed at the base of ancient waterfalls. Gold, being 18 times heavier than water, sinks to the bottom of these depressions near bedrock. This concave geometry is known to be ideal for concentrations of gold and these types of deposits.
In 1894 in Northern Minnesota, legend has it that an old prospector named Sam discovered a glory hole of gold buried 10 feet beneath the erosive soils of an old waterfall. He mined it for several months, gathering hundreds of nuggets. As winter approached, he camouflaged the workings/geocache intending to return the following year. Regrettably, he fell ill and was never able to return. Today, its hidden location is still a mystery, seen by many but recognized only by the select few! Be the first, and you might be rewarded. So gather your gold pans, and see if you can find some gold in the mysterious little creek... Sk8erfamily :)
