? The Brigus Fault

The surrounding hills near Brigus, Newfoundland provide some very interesting geological formations that are easily missed at first glance. The area above John Noel's Road forms a valley that leads into First Pond and is made up of distinct rock formations. This area is bound on the east side of the valley by a rock formation that is distinctly different from the one on the west. Both rock formations are part of the Drook Formation (also referred to as the Conception Group)  and comprises green silicieous siltstone and sandstone and silicified tuff.

One can only be impressed by the very high outcrops that lie on either side of the valley. The western outcrop rises to over 350 feet above sea level. The exposed outcrop forms a sheer cliff that has rocks and boulders of varying sizes that have crumbled beneath the cliff and cover the complete lower half of the cliff face. The outcrop extends for almost a kilometer up the valley. The eastern outcrop reaches a height of just over 450 feet. It has small patches of loose rock scattered across the face of the outcrop. Primarily, this outcrop forms a steeply sloping rock face, that is covered with sparse vegetation. The eastern outcrop contains several very large quartz veins that contain a small amount of gold.

The information provided at the above web site confirms this is not the Brigus Fault. Reference to the following government web site further confirms this. (visit link)

It is clear that the Brigus Fault lies approximately 1.5 km due east of these coordinates. The Brigus Fault runs in a north to south direction and separates the Drook Formation from the Harbour Main Group.
