The Florence County Library system consists of the main library in Florence, and five branches serving the communities of Johnsonville, Lake City, Olanta, Pamplico, and Timmonsville. The newly-constructed buildings, made possible through a partnership with the county and the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation, serve as traditional libraries and provide meeting space for public gatherings.
The Florence, Lake City, and Johnsonville branches also each have a SC History Room featuring historical documents and research materials about the region. The E. N. Zeigler SC History Room in Florence holds rare Americana and original maps dating back to the 1600s.
