A simple cache in the Ruamanga Wilderness Area.
The sign out the front says Ruamahanga Wilderness Area, but there is no wilderness here at all. Even Palmerston North's City Council seem confused - sometimes calling it Ruamahanga Park, or Ruamahanga Wilderness Park. There are large grassy areas for playing with the dog, a few trees and access to the Manawatu River and its walkway. However the usual picnic / playground facilities are absent. So what wildlife can we see here? Beside the dogs, walkers and cyclists crossing through the park to get to the river, there may be sheep over the fence on the far side, and wild golfers just past the fence here. Keep an eye out for wetas at the cache location!
You can approach this cache from an accessway off Ruamahanga Cresent, or walk/cycle to it from the walkway along the riverside. Note that the ground can be very wet or boggy after a rain. The cache is a little 200ml jar. Good luck!
