Geocache Description:


Thayer Lake is one of the oldest man-made lakes in Iowa. Originally built by the railroad in the 1850's, this 10 acre lake was used for supplying the trains water for their steam engines. A spring fed lake allowing little fluctuation in dry or wet years. All nestled in a 47 acre park, one of the oldest recreations areas in Union County, that receives considerable usage throughout the spring, summer and fall months.
