Geocache Description:

Lindisfarne Section of the Clarence Foreshore Trail, from ANZAC Park to the Tasman Bridge. (visit link)

This cache will require you leaving the main path and the height of the tied may challenge some. You will find your self next to the Rowing club which can be busy at times, was at 5 am when I was hiding this cache.

Lindisfarne is centred around a bay of the same name that is one of many such sheltered anchorages on the Derwent River. The bay is home to a number of clubs that cater for rowing, sailing and motor-cruising the local waterways.

The Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania in Lindisfarne Bay, The Lindisfarne Sailing Club and the Lindisfarne Rowing Club (the club of rowers Scott Brennan and Stephen Hawkins) are all situated on the bay's foreshore.

Simmons, a solicitor, built 'Salamis' in Lincoln Street, and is very likely responsible for choosing most of the street names. Beltana was promoted as a healthy place to live, with fresh sea air and away from the noise and smell of the city. To help promote the new suburb, the Company purchased the recreation ground - known as the 'picnic grounds' and held regattas and charity events there. Special excursion steamers were provided by the O'May brothers, as well as regular daily ferry services. In 1891, the Beltana Land Company became the Beltana Land and Steamship Company, and began running their own ferry services to Beltana on the SS Endeavour.
