Con un' elevazione di 860 m il Monte dei Porri é il secondo in altezza sull'isola di Salina. Il Monte dei Porri é un bellissimo esempio di vulcano stratificato. Questo tipo di vulcani si sono formati con strati di materiali rocciosi diversi. La lava di questi vulcani é viscosa e scorre lentamente. In questo modo si formano I ripidi pendii conici (fino a 30-35 gradi).
Un vulcano cosí bello senza un cache sarebbe una peccato. Ci sono due sentieri per risalire. Uno parte dalla strada tra Leni e Valdichiesa. Questa si raggiunge facilmente con l'autobus e il sentiero sale a zig-zag fino in cima. Questo sentiero é ripido ed esposto al sole a al calore (portate molta acqua da bere), ma d'altraparte sale rapidamente. Il secondo sentiero parte dalla strada tra Malfa e Pollara, che non si raggiunge cosí facilmente. Questo sentiero ha un po' di ombra grazie agl' alti cespugli. La vista dall'alto é straordinaria, come potete immaginare. Se il tempo é buono potete osservare le attivita vulcaniche di ben tre vulcani (Etna, Vulcano, Stromboli), come ho fatto io quando ho nascosto il cache.

Monte dei Porri is with an altitude of 860 m the second highest mountain of Salina. Monte del Porri is a wonderful example for a strato-volcano. These types of volcanos have built themselves up by many different layers of different material. The lava of these volcanos hardens before going too far and this results in the typical steep (up to 30-35 degree) and conic shape.
Such a beautiful volcano without a cache would be a shame. There are two paths going up. One starts from the road between Leni and Valdichiesa, this one is easy to reach by bus or and goes straight in tiny zig-zags to the summit. This path is steep and the sun and the heat are for free (bring enough drinking water), but on the other hand it is a quick rise. The second path starts from the road between Malfa and Pollara which is not so easy to reach. This path has some shade due to high bushes. The view from the top is wonderful as you might imagine. If the weather is fine you might see at the same time the volcanic activities from three volcanos (Etna, Volcano, Stromboli) like I did when hiding the cache.

Der Monte dei Porri ist mit 860m der zweithöchste Berg auf Salina. Er ist das Paradebeispiel für einen Schichtvulkan. Diese Vulkane bestehen aus Schichten verschiedener Materialien. Ihre Lava ist zähflüssig und fließt nur langsam so dass es zu der typischen steilen (bis zu 30-35 Grad) spitzkegeligen Form kommt.
So eine toller Vulkan kann natürlich nicht ohne einen Cache auskommen, das versteht sich. Es führen zwei Wege zum Gipfel. Der erste beginnt an der Straße zwischen Leni und Valdichiesa. Man kann den Ausgangspunkt leicht mit dem Bus oder zu Fuß erreichen und dann geht es direkt einen kleinen Zickzackweg den steilen Hang hinauf, Sonne und Hitze sind dabei gratis, bitte an ausreichend Wasser denken. Der zweite Weg startet von der Straße Malfa nach Pollara wo man erst mal nicht so einfach hinkommt. Vorteil hier ist dass der Weg lange Zeit durch hohe schattige Büsche führt. Dies Aussicht vom Gipfel ist, wie man sich vorstellen kann, atemberaubend. Mit etwas Glück und einem Fernglas kann man dann vulkanische Aktivitäten dreier verschiedener Vulkane beobachten (Ätna, Volcano, Stromboli).
