Brazil Ranch--Bixby Canyon View
This cache location gives an excellent panoramic view of the Bixby Canyon, the Old Coast Road and the Pacific Ocean. It is on the Brazil Ranch Trail which is located in the Los Padres National Forest . The Brazil Ranch was established by Tony and Margaret Brazil, immigrants from the Azores, in the late 19th Century. It was operated by the Brazil family for nearly a century. In 1977, the ranch was purchased by Allen Funt the creator television show “Candid Camera.” After Funt passed away in 1999, the land was eventually acquired by the Forest Service. It was open to the public in September of 2011.
The Brazil Ranch Trailhead is located about a half of a mile south of the Bixby Bridge. Upon arrival, you will notice that there are two gates at the trailhead. The first (north) gate is for horse-trailers as this trail doubles as access for horse pastures in the Bixby Canyon. The second (south) gate is for hikers. Park on the ample shoulder on southbound Highway 1 across from the second gate at N36 21.791 W121 54.009.
Enjoy the view!
