Geocache Description:

One of a series based on the book Lost in Bremer County by Linda Betsinger McCann.

In 1882 Buck Creek had these businesses: carpenter, justice of peace, general store, blacksmith, sawmill, grocer, shoemaker, saloon, constable.
Now you will see St John’s Lutheran church built in 1875.

One interesting story of the area from the Waterloo Courier, Dec 4, 1899, indicates that: “Louis Guhr, one of the wealthiest farmers of Bremer County, living near Buck Creek, was choked to death this morning. He was ascending an enclosed windmill tower when a set screw on a revolving shaft caught his clothing and twisted so tightly that he was choked before help could arrive.”
