Geocache Description:

A series based on famous felines.
 
The history of human interaction and companionship with cats dates back 9,500 years.  This was verified in 2007 by the discovery of a grave where a human and cat were laid to rest side by side.
 
In ancient times, and in some cultures still, cats are revered as sacred.
 
Cats are the most popular pet in the world.



A cat abandoned at a library in Spencer, Iowa, USA in 1988.  He was the subject of a book Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat That Touched the World.

Cat Facts:
·         A male is called a tom and a female is a molly
·         A group of cats is a clowder
·         Kittens were once called catlings
·         The ancestor of the domestic cat is the wildcat Felis silvestris
·         Cats have exceptional 'high pitch' hearing (better than dogs and humans)
·         A cat will greet you with a nose rub or raised tail
·         Domestics cats can miaow, trill, growl, hiss and purr
·         The English word 'cat' evolved from the Latin 'cattus.'
